Communication: A Necessary Skill for IT Personnels
28 มิถุนายน 2566 - เวลาอ่าน 2 นาทีIndividuals working in IT need to have an understanding of systems and possess programming skills to create the applications and systems that drive today's world. The demand for IT professionals is exceptionally high. While knowledge and skills in IT are crucial, they alone are not sufficient for maximum efficiency. Effective communication abilities are essential in IT jobs as well.
Research by Galster and colleagues in 2019 analyzed job postings in New Zealand for IT positions and found that the most sought-after supplementary skill was communication ability. This refers to the capacity to receive and transmit information, including written and verbal communication. Why is communication ability necessary in IT jobs?
In the current IT landscape, although there are various job roles, communication skills are utilized in almost every field. Software developers need to communicate with each other to build large-scale applications, dividing programming tasks and providing feedback to one another. IT support teams need to communicate with non-technical individuals, necessitating clear communication. Systems analysts or business analysts need to communicate to convey business requirements to developers and explain the solutions developed by the programmers to the business stakeholders. Effective communication reduces errors, improves efficiency, and fosters teamwork.
The need for communication skills is evident in job postings across small, medium, and large companies, whether directly related to IT or in companies with other business domains. Developing the communication skills of IT professionals is therefore crucial. Training in presentation techniques, writing skills, active listening, and even email etiquette can enhance the efficiency of IT personnel directly. A robust communication system is necessary for IT work. Therefore, companies should invest in communication systems, as general-purpose chat applications may not be suitable for IT work.
